Venice – 8.24 – 8.31.10
My partner Michael Rooks was the commissioner of the American pavilion of the Venice Biennale in 2010, so I went to Venice to visit him and see the Biennale. I flew to Milan and took the train to Venice where I stayed in a 17th century Palazzo for the first few days before moving to the Gritti Palace for the remainder of the trip. I was occupied with the Biennale and all of it’s activities for most of the time, but I did manage to get away on my own for an afternoon and evening, and that’s when most of these photographs were taken. We also visited the Palladio Villa Cornaro in near by Piombino Dese.
I stopped in Milan for one night on the way back to New York and spent the afternoon shopping and walking around the Brera. It was Sunday in Milan, and everything was closed, but I had a nice day wandering.

When I took this picture I didn’t see the person at the other end of the street looking my way. Funny what we don’t see when we’re making photographs all the time. {Click the image for a closer look.}

I can still hear the radio blaring Italian rock and roll through this open window and the boat motors in the canal behind me. I love all the different greens going on in this picture too.
